Statement on the Status of the Grand Commandery of Australia

The Grand Commandery of Australia proudly serves as the national body of the Ordre du Temple de Jérusalem within Australia. While our title is “Grand Commandery,” this reflects our current position as the officially recognised national jurisdiction, rather than a regional or local unit.

At present, the Grand Commandery operates with autonomy in its governance and operations, but remains under the jurisdiction of the Xritus Vincit International Priory, the overarching authority guiding our work as part of the wider international Templar family.

It is important to note that in the context of the Order’s structure, sovereign status denotes a stand-alone Grand Priory with full self-governing authority within its territory. The Grand Commandery of Australia is actively progressing towards this next stage of development.

In the not-too-distant future, we anticipate the formal elevation of the Australian jurisdiction to the rank of Grand Priory. This advancement will confer sovereign authority over the Order’s affairs in Australia, while preserving our fraternal bonds with the Ordre du Temple de Jérusalem worldwide.

Until that time, the Grand Commandery of Australia will continue to faithfully uphold the traditions, disciplines, and mission of the Order, serving the cause of Christian chivalry through works of faith, charity, and service under the blessing and guidance of the Xritus Vincit International Priory.
